Tesla is hiring Software Engineer, AI Driven Test Automation
What to Expect

As a Software Engineer in Autopilot, you will lead the development of intelligent agents that automate software test case creation and execution for our cutting-edge vehicles. Working alongside world-class engineers, you will leverage Tesla’s massive driving data and state-of-the-art compute infrastructure to build AI agents capable of generating, prioritizing, and refining test scenarios. This role is pivotal for accelerating our release cycles while maintaining Tesla’s rigorous safety and quality standards.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop AI Agents for Automated Test Generation: Design and implement AI models that can analyze specifications, source code, and historical test data to generate new test cases automatically
  • Integrate with Vehicle Software Pipelines: Work closely with Autopilot and Firmware teams to ensure automated tests are seamlessly integrated into the CI/CD pipeline. Collaborate on internal frameworks to validate real-time behavior, sensor inputs, and safety-critical functions
  • Optimize Test Selection and Coverage: Research and implement advanced algorithms for test case prioritization, ensuring maximum coverage and defect detection in minimal time. Monitor performance metrics (e.g., code coverage, error detection rate) and continually enhance the AI-driven approach
  • Build Intelligent Feedback Loops: Incorporate feedback from test executions (pass/fail, system logs, edge cases) to retrain or adjust models, improving future test quality. Create adaptive systems that learn from real-world incidents and scenarios to continuously expand test coverage
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with QA, DevOps, and software development groups to roll out new test automation features. Provide documentation and training materials to ensure successful adoption and understanding of AI-generated test assets
  • Maintain High-Performance Infrastructure: Integrate AI training and inference into Tesla’s scalable infrastructure, ensuring minimal latency and maximum throughput. Monitor system performance, optimize resource utilization, and troubleshoot bottlenecks in large-scale test workflows
  • Stay Current with AI Advancements: Keep up-to-date with the latest AI research in test automation, applying novel techniques to continuously enhance our solution. Champion innovation and experimentation within the broader Tesla software engineering community
What You’ll Bring
  • Software Development Skills: Proficiency in architecting and implementing enterprise-grade systems. Familiarity with software engineering best practices: version control, CI/CD, code reviews, and automated testing
  • Test Automation Knowledge: Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks. Understanding of software QA processes, test coverage metrics, and defect management
  • Distributed Systems and Data Handling: Experience designing large-scale distributed systems, especially ML-driven workflows. Proficiency with data pipelines and large-scale data processing tools
  • Passion for Innovation and Safety: A drive to push the boundaries of AI test automation while maintaining Tesla’s uncompromising standards for safety and quality. Interest in automotive and robotics applications, with a desire to influence next-generation vehicle software testing
  • Implement & Optimize LLM-Based Agents: Work on large language model (LLM) or GPT-style agents that parse source code, generate test scenarios, and integrate with coverage tools. Focus on on-premise or secure deployments to keep source code confidential
  • Experience in LLM-Based Agents: Demonstrated experience building and optimizing large language model (LLM) or GPT-style solutions that parse source code, generate test scenarios, and integrate seamlessly with coverage tools—especially in on-premise or otherwise secure environments to maintain strict source code confidentiality
